Usher Says 'Scream' Is 'Just In Time For Summer'

Following 'Climax,' singer tells MTV News his latest single 'represents the other side' of Looking for Myself album.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><P>Bumping beats, sexy lyrics and <a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>'s signature R&B bad-boy swagger can only mean one thing: the singer has once again hooked up with superstar pop producer Max Martin. Their latest collaboration, <a href="/news/articles/1683947/usher-scream.jhtml">"Scream,"</a> picks up where "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" left off back in 2010. </P><P> </P><P>Usher used <i>that</i> track to convince us to go home with him after a dizzying night of partying, and for "Scream," he's got us back at his pad and he's rocking our world, one fist-pumping moment at a time. While he opted to slow it down on <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/16/usher-diplo-climax-love-affair-song">"Climax,"</a> Usher is back to large-scale dance tracks on <a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking for Myself</i></a>'s second single. And, he told MTV News, both tracks reflect the sound of the album. </P><P> </P><P><div style="background-color:#000000;width:428px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:764219/cp~vid%3D764219%26instance%3Dmtv%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A764219" width="420" height="236" frameborder="0"></iframe></div></div> </P><P> </P><P>"This album has many different views and many different perspectives," he told MTV News while rehearsing for his one-night run as the lead in NYC's off-Broadway spectacle "Fuerza Bruta," which also served as a place for Usher to debut the album ahead of its release. "And me and Max Martin, we've had success together in the past, and this was a record I felt represented the other side of the [album]." </P><P> </P><P>"Scream" and "Climax" truly are polar-opposite tracks. Where "Climax" sears and broods, "Scream" celebrates and dances. Usher is excited for the chance to show all those sides with the two lead singles from the June 12 release. </P><P> </P><P>"Whereas the first song was a little bit more artistic and a little bit more soulful, and it has done everything, it probably exceeded my expectations, I mean, from the moment I was able to give it away. I was able to kind of be reintroduced in a way musically, and thank you to [producer] Diplo, but 'Scream' is really like the next step. It's just in time for summer and the type of experience that I want people to get out of the album." </P><P> </P><P>But the Atlanta-bred singer notes that the album can't be defined just by "Climax" or "Scream." There's a lot there to keep fans tuning in. "It's a ton of other experiences and a ton of other walks ... as I've had this long journey over the last year [and] every bit of what I've experienced I've put into a creative, artistic way," he said. </P><P> </P><P>As for the video, well, that still has to be shot, but he joked that "Fuerza Bruta" might serve as the perfect backdrop for the clip &#8212; or maybe not. "We might be shooting it while we're here," he laughed. "This is like a movie set, damn near &#8212; sh-- you don't normally see with the launch of an album. This is pretty spectacular." </P><P> </P><P><i>What are you expecting from Usher's next album? Let us know in the comments!</i></p></p>

Study: 95% Of Independent Restaurants Don?t Have Mobile Sites, Only 40% Have Online Menus

Graphics | Restaurant SciencesRestaurants just love to put Flash intros with auto-playing music and animations on their front pages. If you are trying to look at a one of these sites on your mobile browser without Flash, chances are you can't even get to anything else on the site because far too often, there is no way to bypass the animation and get to the information you want, or because the complete site was designed in flash. It's not just these obnoxious animations that make restaurant websites a hassle, though. According to a new study by Restaurant Science, a restaurant industry information and analytics provider, one out of eight full service restaurant chains and a depressing one out of twenty independent restaurants don't have a mobile website. What makes this even worse is that according to some reports, half of all visits to restaurant websites are from mobile devices.

House passes bill that would call for a single website tracking federal spending

ImageThe last time a proposed law captured our attention it was so widely loathed it was never even put to a vote, but today we bring you the kind of no-brainer legislation that seems to have strong support on both sides of the aisle. The US House of Representatives has passed the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act (DATA), a bill that calls for the creation of an independent board to log all federal spending on a single, centralized website. What's more, these expenses need to be recorded with identifiers and markup languages that make them more easily searchable. As Computerworld notes, the vote happens to come on the heels of a recent dust-up involving the US General Services Administration spending $823,000 on a conference in Vegas -- precisely the sort of excess this proposed website would be designed to expose. The next step, of course, is for the bill to win Senate approval, though for now it seems the legislation has garnered strong bi-partisan support: in a rare showing, all of the lawmakers who discussed the DATA Act on the House floor argued in favor of it.

ComScore pegs Kindle Fire at more than 50 percent of the US Android tablet market

We've seen some pretty clear indications that the Kindle Fire was rapidly gaining market share among Android tablets, and ComScore is now out with a new report that indicates it recently crossed a big milestone. According to the research firm, the Fire's market share in the US fully doubled from December to February, with it standing at 54.4 percent as of the end of the month. Counted together, the Galaxy Tab family sits in second at 15.4 percent, while the Motorola Xoom and Asus Transformer come in at 7 and 6.3 percent, respectively. Of course, the Kindle Fire isn't quite your ordinary Android tablet, so this is likely better news for Amazon than Google. In addition to that, ComScore also looked at the browsing habits of tablet users, and unsurprisingly found that larger screens tended to lead to more content consumption, with 10-inch tablets boasting a 39 percent higher consumption rate than 7-inch devices. You can find all the numbers at the source link below.

Target Neutralized: Amazon Beats Tablet Makers At Their Own Game

913d4_funny-dog-pictures-target-acquiredWith the announcement that the Kindle Fire has grabbed 54.4% of the Android Tablet market, it's clear to see that Amazon's Trojan Horse strategy paid off. As I wrote back in December, the Fire is Amazon's way of making all of their offerings "real." Movies, books, and games were Amazon's core competency back when all of that stuff was on disks and on paper and that core competency is repurposed now for the Information Age. That's what all of the other Android tablet makers missed: people don't want general-purpose devices anymore or at least general-purpose devices in tablet form. There is little need to be "productive" on a tablet when consumption is why most people buy them. Sure someone out there is SSHing into their servers and editing documents in Pages, but the average user plops down on the couch with the iPad and calls up some IMDB or some NSFW Reddit, not a text editor.

Facebook for Android updated with new icons for Camera and Messenger

Facebook camera and messengerThe official Facebook app for Android has been updated with a couple of small changes to the "Camera" and "Messenger" applications that come bundled with it. The new app icons, which first appeared in Facebook's 1.9 update late last week, were criticized by some due to there being little to tell them apart from the camera and SMS apps pre-loaded on most Android phones. The fear was that users would be confused or worse, misled by the apps' presence.

It seems Facebook's taken this criticism to heart, and today it's acted to make things a little more clear for users. In the new version, both app icons now display the Facebook logo in the bottom left corner, further differentiating them from pre-loaded camera and messaging apps.

Hit that update button to grab the new version. Alternatively, we've got the usual Google Play Store linkage after the break.
